Weezie Foley, the main character in this book, is once again working her decorating magic in her antiques store because she wants to win the Savannah window decorating contest this year. She wants to win it almost as much as she doesn’t want her competition across the square, Babalu to win. Weezie invests a lot of effort and money to decorate according to the historic commission’s guidelines, but the next day she finds that her decorations have been picked nearly clean of their fruit. Was it the work of the homeless people or did her less than friendly business competitors Cookie and Manny have something to do with it?

There’s other mysterious things going on. Weezie’s dog runs off and the next morning is sitting in her truck. Was it a good Samaritan that brought him back or someone with more sinister things on his or her mind. To make things a little more eerie and unpredictable, someone comes into Weezie’s house while she’s getting ready for her open house and takes off with most of her food. On top of that, Manny informs her that he saw someone sleeping in the bed in the window display of her shop.

In the midst of everything else, Weezie befriends an unseen homeless person (at least that who she thinks she’s befriending) whom she names Annie and leaves small gifts for.

Weezie has her best friend BeBe to count on throughout the book, along with her significant other, Daniel. But while Weezie and BeBe definitely have the Christmas spirit, Daniel is sorely lacking it.

The funniest part of the book is when during Weezie’s Christmas meal. She invites Daniel’s family over and things go crazy. The writing is so good that you can picture the mayhem in your mind.

The book is a quick read. I finished it in one evening. If you’ve read other books by Mary Kay Andrews, you will likely already be familiar with Weezie and BeBe because they are main characters in two of Ms. Andrew’s other books, Savannah Blues and Savannah Breeze.

This book is a fun read for the Christmas season and it a quick book to read too. I finished it in one afternoon.

My rating (0-10 smilies): 8 ☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☺☺

Hello Fellow Book Lovers

I love to read books. It’s a passion I’ve had since since I was a child and would take a blanket and book out behind our house in the country in the summer and read most of the day. Meals and the sun going down were the only things that interrupted my reading marathons as a child. Today I read at least a little bit every day. I always have a couple of books on my nightstand and have spent more nights than I should reading until the wee hours of the morning because I was unable to put down the book I was reading. It made getting up for work in the morning very hard. I like popular fiction books the best but also enjoy reading some non-fiction books, especially motivational books. On this blog I’ll review books I’ve read and make recommendations on whether or not I feel they are a worthwhile book for others to read. Instead of using a 5 star system to rate the books, I’m going to use a 10 smiley face system. A book getting 10 smiley faces will be a book that I had to force myself to put down because it was so engaging. Books with only 1 or 2 smiley faces are ones that I find dull and not worth your time. I welcome your comments on the books I review as well as your comments on any books you’ve read or books you recommend to other readers. Send me your top 10 favorite books of all time and I’ll post those lists in a special section of this blog. Happy Reading!
